Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2011 - Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s Summer/Resort 2011 collection was inspired by Aircel’s CSR project SAVE THE TIGER.

"Starting the show with a line of yellow, black and ivory tones inspired by the colours of the Indian Tiger, Sabyasachi presented a collection that moved through the various decades of fashion. There was the fun and freedom of the 20s, followed by the elegance of the 30s and 40s. There were touches of the 70s Boho chic and the 80s daring arresting bras."

The collection consisted of skirts, maxi-dresses, mini-sarees layered oer skirts. A couple of jumpsuits but not trousers or leggings. Sabyasachi forte is his use of indian textiles, indian prints, simple garments with lots of layering - all present in the collection. He also did some color-blocking but they were lacking in finesse.
He usually has a common thread running thru the presentation and this time also all his models had the same hairstyle, wore the same eye glasses and same style of shoes.

The whole collection has a boho-chic look but we have seen similar stuff before in his past collections. Nothing unique/exciting or new from the designer:-(

  1. I find it all fabulously exciting, the ecclectic mix of patterns, colour and texture. How freaking gorgeous is that model? I love her specs and topknot, great contrast to the glamour of the clothes. xxx

  2. Ok i'll just write about the ones that struck me:

2nd picture: the print only...love it!
    6th picture: the skirt
8th picture: never knew that such a color combination would look so beautiful!!!
10th picture: would love to wear the top! and that's coming from someone who hates orange!
11th picture: HATE the pallu's design somehow :P

  4. These are all so beautiful (particular fave is second row down, middle picture), but really feel like the specs let the look down (sorry guys!) Geek chic has been on the cards for a year, and now in London it's only worn by grubby students trying to look cool - (the worst are the ones who wear empty specs) - so sorry, Sabyasachi is about a year behind, surprisingly.

Also - again, not a popular view, but the top knot/specs makes them look like disgruntled nerds who've come on Oprah to show how hot they are now!
