HDIL couture week - Day two

Queenie Dhody and Raj Mahatani also showcased their jewelery designs on day two of HDIL .

Malaika Arora Khan was the showstopper for Queenie. The jewelery is pretty - just not my style.
Who: Malaika Arora Khan

Raveena Tandon was the showstopper for Raj Mahatani. Love her necklace - its so grand and OTT !! And cant believe she wore those clunky shoes on the ramp!!

Who: Raveena Tandon

Varun Bahl and Karan Johar presented their men's collection and in a major coup got Amitabh, Hrithik and Shahrukh to walk for them!! They look so delicious:-) Looks like the three broke out into a jig at the end..

HDIL couture week - Maheep Kapoor

Jewelery designer Maheep Sanjay Kapoor launched her eponymous jewelery range at HDIL couture week 2010. It was a bridal collection with a lot of rough diamonds and gemstones. Maheep wanted to do things differently, so she had her closest friends walk the ramp in her designs. I think that's a really brilliant!!

Her BFF, Gauri Khan, however decided to sit this one out. From what I understand Gauri has become very particular about which brands she associates with - yeah, right endorsing a home furnishing brand (D'Decor) makes sooo much sense!!

I have tried to get as many close-ups as possible...

Sonakshi Sinha and Ayesha Takia were the showstoppers for the show. Ayesha dazzled in a blue gown and to be honest looks so gorgeously stunning that I didnt even look at her jewelery!!

So which necklace are you guys eyeing for ur next marriage anniversary/ceremony?

Celebs at HDIL couture week 2010 - Day one

Who: Sonam Kapoor

Sonam channeled Betty, Peggy and Joan from "Mad Men" going for a 60's ladylike look. She wore a black dress with cap sleeves and a semi-full skirt that hit her below the knees. Pointy pumps, cream handbag and gorgeous ethnic necklace completed the look.

The look is not bad but there is no drama. For that you need the contrast of a well-fitted bodice and a skirt with way more volume. The skirt also should be knee length( not this long)... Do love her red lip color and sleek hair style..

Who: Sameera Reddy

Sameera wore a pant-suit with a very interesting silhouette. The jacket looks like a tux in a wraparound style. The addition of the belt prevents the jacket from overwhelming her frame. I like her outfit but the shoe color is an eyesore...It also looks like her foundation is not the right shade..

Who: Sangeeta Bijlani

Sangeeta wore a fabulous coral colored flapper dress which she topped with loose, tousled hair... This is a major upgrade from her last appearance. The color and the dress style give Sangeeta a very youthful look..

Who: Queenie Dhody

Queenie wore a leopard print dress to the opening party. For Manish's show, she wore a drape-y dress in soft pink and paired it with white clutch and silver shoes. Neither of the looks work for me.

Left: Urmila Matondakar, Right: Sophie Choudry

Urmila - Only one word - "tacky"

Sophie in a dress that looks great from the back and pretty boring from the front. If I were her, I would walk backwards the whole time:-)

Left: Natasha Poonawala, Right: Guest

Neck up, Nastasha looks pretty lackluster but do I love her maxi-dress or what?

The guest is a study in restrained elegance in a knockout mustard-yellow dress. She wisely didnt over-accessorize and completed her ensemble with some great shoes.

HDIL couture week - Manish Malhotra

It hardly been a month since Lakme Fashion Week'10 got over and now we are having HDIL couture week in Bombay!! Why do we have a fashion week every month in India? same designers, same celebs?? All the fashion capitals are showcasing Spring/Summer'11 right now and we are still showing Winter'10??Whats up with that??

Ok, I am done with the ranting:-)

The HDIL was kick-started by none other than Manish Malhotra who presented a bridal couture collection with 55 outfits!! According to Manish "Emerald is the new bridal color". His collection was gorgeous and glamorous. I can see hordes of soon-to-be-brides lining up in front of his stores:-)

My top picks

The showstopper was none other than Ms Rai who walked to ramp after 15 or so years. She wore a lehenga in cream. Wait a sec, bridal wear in white?? hmmmm...Anyways, she looks stunning in smoky eyes and voluminous hair, teased at the crown. Love her makeup, cant say the same about her outfit which really wasn't a showstopper:(

HDIL'10 opening party - Part III

Who: Rani Mukherjee

Rani in a bright color - what a surprise:-) Beautiful dress in a gorgeous shade of blue. Love the embellishment on the shoulder and the small cutout at the sleeve. Rani carries the dress really well. What I really don't like is the white shoes with blue..

Who: Shahrukh and Gauri Khan

Shine alert!! Has Gauri not heard of matte makeup?? She can stand at the sea-shore and guide all ships to harbor!!

And there is something off about the fit of this dress..Anyways, lets just ogle at her arm candy and move on to the next outfit..

Who: Twinkle and Akshay Khanna

Ouch!! That print clash really hurts!!

Love her dress, love her clutch, love her shoes but all together makes my head spin!! ..Lets again divert our attention to the arm candy..

Who: Mehr and Arjun Ramphal

Isnt that color combination really awesome?? Mehr looks tall and elegant in an one-shoulder maxi-dress. Some earrings would have looked nice - why waste an opportunity to accessorize:-). And love Arjun's shirt...

Who: Suzanne Khan

Suzanne wore a flirty, summery maxi-dress that she paired with a beautiful green clutch. A perfect Resort look!! Someone forgot to tell her this is a fashion show red carpet event..

HDIL'10 opening party - Part II

Left: Urmila Matondakar, Center: Shamita Shetty, Right: Sushma Reddy

Urmila wore a black/white abstract print dress with an asymmetrical hemline to the HDIL opening night. She teamed it with a printed clutch and shoes with rosettes. Although she has the legs to rock this dress, I think a longer skirt would have looked more classy.

Shamita wore a cutesy safe dress that I think works for her. She looks good but doesnt really "wow" me..

Meghna in a dress that would have looked great on a girls night out but is really simple for a red carpet event...

HDIL'10 opening party - Part 1

Who: Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa wore a black drop-down waist, mini-dress to the fashion show opening party. She paired her dress with a gold chain belt, black-gold clutch and strappy shoes.
I love the gold detailing at the neckline. Shilpa looks effortlessly chic and ankle upwards this is a winner. Her shoe choice doesnt work for me and I would have preferred something non-fussy.

Who: Deepika Padukone

Deepika wore a two-tone dress in beige and black to the event. The black carpet makes it difficult to figure out her shoe style. The top has beautiful pleats that extend to her sleeve. The only iffy part seems to be the superfluous ruffle at the waist.
And she should have done up her hair and gone for some serious bling in her ears..

And some more LBDs:-)

Left: Karishma Kapoor, Center: sonali Bendre, Right: Farah Ali Khan

Left: Guest, Center: Soniya Mehra, Right: Amrita Arora

Left: Nandita Mahtani, Center: Sameera Reddy, Right: Raveena Tandon

Not sure why Soniya decided to celebrate Halloween one month early!! She looks ghastly but rocks some great shoes..Karishma looks chic and Raveena is under-dressed for the event. Like the guest in one-shoulder gown and multi-layered gold chains..

So who do you think was best dressed in black??
