Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Anita Dongre

Anita Dogre presented an all white collection inspired by her love for Jaipur. There were two lines in her collection. One called 'Interpret' consisted of resort wear and the second 'Timeless' consisted of ethnic wear. Beautiful pieces with sparkling gorgeous silver embroidery. Perfect for day and night wear in summer! I esp. love the last anarkali with silver churidar/leggings..

Celebs at Lakme fashion week.

Who: Freida Pinto

Whenever I see tulle, it reminds me of the pink tutu that Carrie wore in the opening credits of SATC. That look has become so iconic..Tulle/crinoline is a very girly fabric and adds a feminine touch to any outfit. I adore skirts that have tulle peeking from under the hem of the skirt. But you have to be careful since you don't want to look too poofy. This outfit uses tulle as the side panels on an attractively embelished dress, adding depth to a simple silhouette. Love the color combination but I am iffy on the dress. How cute are her T-strap shoes??

Who: Celina

This is Celina's signature look - chiffon sari with sequins spaghetti top, pin-straight hair, heavily lined eyes, big earrings. It looks good albeit boring, so why mess with a tried and tested formula:P The sari is the prefect shade of grey for summer and it is draped very beautifully. She should have gone easy on the eye liner and for a bolder shade of red lip color..

Who: Shraddha Kapoor (Shakti Kapoor's daughter)

Try to look beyond the scary makeup... I found this look very causal chic. The vest, layered necklaces, tapered pants and peep toes - all pull this look together. Me likey!!

Another great look from the mystery girl. Come on guys, help me ID her!! Who is she??

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Satya Paul

Puneet Nanda's,Designer for Satya Paul, collection was titled “Zen, Zest, Zip, Zap and Zing”. The collection consisted of saris, lehengas and gowns. The colors were very vibrant and the embellishments varied from sequins, lace to traditional zardozi and aari embroidery..I loved the psychedelic prints he did on some of the saris and gowns. Mandira Bedi opened the show.

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Malini Ramani

Malini Ramani showcased five different resort collections on Day 3. Her collection was titled "Journey of Love" and it is a story of a woman's search for love(what else??) thru Mexico, the Cote d'Azur (France), Rajasthan and Zanzibar (Africa) and finally ending in Mumbai (where else??). I have picked two outfits per collection and the Mumbai one was modeled by Malini herself along with Mehr Jesia, Maheep Kapoor, and Bhavna Pandey. I liked the Mexico and Rajasthan collection, Cote d'Azur was borrring and the Mumbai one looked a little dull..

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Manish Malhotra

Manish Malhotra - not sure what to write here;-) The most famous Bollywood designer who made a very successful transition into the Indian Fashion world. Who can forget 'Rangeela'?

His Summer/Resort 2010 collection had two main themes- ribbons (which he put on saris and salvaar-kameejs) and a mish-mash ugly print (which he cut into various outfits). Nothing in the entire collection to make my heart skip a beat. And surprise, surprise, he did not have any celebs walk the ramp!! My picks:

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Lecoanet Hemant

Didier Lecoanet and Hemant Sagar collection for Lakme fashion week was titled "Green". I couldn't find any writeup that suggested they used organic fabrics or used eco-friendly production techniques - just that the look had a 'organic' feel?? what is organic feel - wearing leaf head pieces?? Anyways, they did have some truly desirable pieces. I can totally see Neha Dhupia in the middle outfit minus the leaf ;-)

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Abdul Halder

Abdul Halder did a bridal collection inspired by the Victorian/Mughal era. Tulle, brocade, silk and satin, sheer georgettes, velvets in bright colors - purple, red, blue, yellow, green, fuchsia, orange and pink, dazzled on the catwalk. The outfits were embellished with polkis, kundans and crystal work. Here are my top picks.

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi is pretty popular on the red carpet with a number of celebs sporting his creations - esp. saris. His Summer/Resort 2010 was inspired by colors of Africa, American underground years of the 70s and Paris of the 1920s. The color palette was earthy with large doses of silver and gold embroidery. He went for a layered look in his presentation with the models wearing a number of different clothing pieces creatively put together. All the models wore pink-hued glasses, bandanas and stacked chunky bangles. Do note the cute printed wedge heel slip-ons.

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Shradha Murarka

Shradha Murarka's collection "Celestial Bodies" was inspired by the heavenly bodies of the universe and galaxies. A wide range of fabrics - organza, taffeta and even leather, in variety of style - bondage, corset, Grecian, origami folds. Totally dig the gladiator shoes worn by the models... I can see Katrina wearing the third outfit in the first row - bondage leather dress.

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Nikasha

Nikasha presented an utterly glamorous feminine collection called 'Siuli' - inspired by the pretty flower of the same name which blooms at night. The collection was in shades of cream, yellow, red, rust and coral. Beautiful proportions and draping. The outfits were accessorized with chunky necklaces, anklets and organza doll trimmings with ghungroos. I now need to beg/borrow/steal money to buy this entire collection!!

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Pria Kataaria Puri

Pria's Summer/Resort 2010 collection was a homage to Maharani Gayatri Devi and was named "The Royal Rajputana Collection". In the designer's own words, Maharani's "chiffon saris combined with a string of pearls have become legendary in the world of fashion" and as such all the models wore long string of pearls. The fabrics were mostly French chiffons and satins, with digital prints of the actual jewelery that the Maharani wore. I loved the beautiful unique prints. Pria also had a bright colorful runaway floor which reminded me of the inlay work of precious stones that you normally see in old mosques/forts/monuments. This was a huge mistake as the floor totally clashed with what the models were wearing.

Lakme fashion week Summer/Resort 2010 - Rocky. S

The Lakme fashion week opened with a bridal collection from Rocky. S and jewellery designed by Queenie for Giantti. The colors varied from pastels to vibrant solid hues like pink, peach, nude and turquoise and then moved to luxurious shaded tones ending with ivory and black. The outfits were embellished with zardozi, sequins, appliques, saworksi crystals. A very wearable collection but nothing that really stands out. Makeup is minimum ; lots of hairpieces..
