Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Manish Malhotra

Manish Malhotra's last collection that was shown in Delhi Couture Week 2010 was not well-received and was panned by critics. He redeems himself with this collection that closed day four of Lakme Fashion Week 2010. His collection was sponsored by Aircel and he used Aircel colors - red and blue as the building blocks. The look was luxurious all the way and clothes were decked with heavy embroidery, zari, crystals, sequins and brocade. He presented kurtis, anarkalis, lehengas and relaxed harem pants. Manish continues to be in love with panels and gota borders:-)
I loved all the net saris and colors of this collection are really fabulous. Lots of potential red carpet looks..

Red Carpet Pics: I can see the Kapoor sisters and Aishwarya totally wearing these saris. The second sari, first row would look good on Vidya after she is surgically separated from Sabyasachi:-)

Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Swapnil Shinde

Swapnil's collection "Dancer in the dark" was a fusion of 17th and 18th century styles of Europe and Indian lavni dancers of Maharashtra. His collection had two very distinct look. The first one was mainly in black/greys and the second one was in ivory white with a splattered paint effect. The outfits consisted of flouncy skirts with cinched waist line, draped sari style dresses, and evening gowns . Swapnil worked with chiffon, satin, Lycra, net, velvet, faux leather and exclusive printed chiffons.
I liked his white dresses with splatted paint effect best..

Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Manish Arora

The first day of Lakme Fashion week was closed by Manish Arora. He presented a collection packed with psychedelic kaleidoscopic colors in abstract and art prints. The collection consisted of dresses with drapes, rouched blouses, bias cut skirts and sexy plunging V necklines which were at times were paired by rigid extended shoulders and wide sleeves. The collection had a very futuristic style with a robotic feel. All the models were in cropped colorful wigs and tribal makeup.

Few of Manish's prints in this collection reminded me of McQueen stuff.

I am going to come out and say upfront that I not a big fan of Manish since most of the stuff is best suited to the likes of Kate Perry and Lady GaGa. Its too kitschy for my taste..I was pleasantly surprise by this collection. If you can just look at the clothes, there are some (the emphasis being some) pieces that can be worn if you keep all other accessories really simple and your attitude cocky:-)

Red Carpet picks: This is a tough one!!

Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Krishna Mehta

Krishna Mehta presented a collection consisting of formal wear for bridal or Diwali nights. The collection had dresses, saris and lehengas. Heavily embroidered jackets were teamed with saris, lehengas or dresses and hemlines were rouched and doubled to give a slight western touch. Tunics and dresses were either sexy, short or turned into multi kali anarkali kurtas. The collection was heavy on mixing as well as layering different textured fabrics. The color palette was beige, gold, yellow, red and black..

All in all, a gorgeous collection. I loved the jackets that Krishna paired with the lehengas - would look so good with pants too!!

Key Looks

Red carpet picks: The first outfit, second row would be great on Malaika Arora Khan and I would love the see the flapper dress (first outfit, first row) on Lara Dutta..
