Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Manish Arora

The first day of Lakme Fashion week was closed by Manish Arora. He presented a collection packed with psychedelic kaleidoscopic colors in abstract and art prints. The collection consisted of dresses with drapes, rouched blouses, bias cut skirts and sexy plunging V necklines which were at times were paired by rigid extended shoulders and wide sleeves. The collection had a very futuristic style with a robotic feel. All the models were in cropped colorful wigs and tribal makeup.

Few of Manish's prints in this collection reminded me of McQueen stuff.

I am going to come out and say upfront that I not a big fan of Manish since most of the stuff is best suited to the likes of Kate Perry and Lady GaGa. Its too kitschy for my taste..I was pleasantly surprise by this collection. If you can just look at the clothes, there are some (the emphasis being some) pieces that can be worn if you keep all other accessories really simple and your attitude cocky:-)

Red Carpet picks: This is a tough one!!

Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Anita Dogre

Anita Dongre’s collection at the LakmĂ© Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 show was called “A Tale of Two Cities” and consisted of two distinct collections from designer.

In her prĂȘt INTERPRET line, she presented dresses aimed at the jet-setting women on the go. The dresses were subdivided into two different color schemes. One was a monochromatic look in colors like red, green, blue and black. All these dresses were bodycon with lots of draping.
In the other, she used cotton fabric with traditional hand block prints in earth tones. Again bodycon dresses, with silver embroidery at the hemline or the neck. She kept the silhouettes simple.

In the Anita Dongre - TIMELESS, Anita presented ethnic wear in cotton fabric and vegetable dyes and hand block prints.

I liked the dresses done in Indian prints but again nothing very striking. Her TIMELESS collection was much better with beautiful lehengas paired with velvet blouses. All the models had the same hairstyle (ugy!!) , same style of footwear and loads of silver jewelery from Amrapali. I loved the stacked silver bangles..

Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2010 - Narendra Kumar

Lakme Fashion Week - Winter Festive 2010 kicked off to a great start with Narendra Kuma's collection titled "Sounds of Mumbai". If was an off-site show and Narendra set-up his runway to resemble Bombay's railway platform complete with two boogies!!

His collection opened with outfits for the working woman, then moved onto sporty looks for club and cocktail wear and finished with evening looks with figure hugging gowns. The color palette was mainly earth tones and he used a lot of different fabrics - raw silk, tussore, organic cotton, silk and georgette. Very simple silhouettes and extremely wearable collection but nothing that makes me wanna lust:-)

Key Looks

I would love to see Neha Dhupia in the first outfit, first row and the first outfit in the second row is perfect for Dia - sweet with a just a little bit of oomph.

What are your thoughts on the collection?

Celebs at Lakme Fashion Week Winter 2010 - Day one

Who: Mallika Sherawat

Trust Mallika to try to sex-up a simple yellow dress!! There she is, pushing her decolletage in our face:-) She also need to get over her Ms Bo-Peep fixation..The dress is really pretty and I love her red Mary Janes.

Left: Isha Koppikar, Right: Tisca Chopra

Isha is bland in a monochromatic grey outfit..She really looks dowdy.

Tisca fares a little better with her grey outfit by playing with textures and accessories. The lace top is nice but necklace doesn't get my vote.

Who: Rhea Kapoor

Rhea looks smart in her cropped white jacket paired with black pants. A ponytail or pulled up her hair would have looked better with this outfit but she looks good. And how gorgeous is the color of her clutch!!

Who: Vidya Maldave

I really love it when celebs wear bright colors and wear them correctly!! Two thumbs up..

Who: Guest

This is how you rock hot pink!! You go, girl!!! love her confidence and her statement necklace..
